My Time at Dismas
5
I had been anticipating this weekend
getaway for months.  Eight of us warm and
excited strained our necks and eyes in the
dark to see our hideaway.  When we pulled
up to the house I could feel the warmth
from the lights in the window.  I knew this
was a special place.  The
winter sky was
filled with stars.  The moon lit up the snowy
hills that we would be skiing the following
day.  We were the last group to arrive so
everyone came out to greet us and help
with bags.  The old house smelt full of
stories and dinner which we ate scattered
amongst the table and sofas.  Later some
of us slept, some knitted and some missed
a TV.  Later we played cranium which
brought out everyone’s unique character
and smiles.
The sun rose strong on Saturday and
breakfast was devoured.  We broke trails in
every direction on our cross country skis.
Most of us handled the little hills pretty well
until we had to stop, then down we went,
our bottoms stopping us and the laughter
helping us back up.
The closer we got the lighter I felt….

Michael and Kitty Dukakis to Speak at Dinner Auction
Gov. Michael and Ms. Kitty Dukakis:
Former Massachusetts governor and
Democratic presidential candidate Michael
Dukakis and his wife Kitty have both
dedicated themselves to
lives of public
service.
Gov. Dukakis, the son of Greek immigrants
who settled in the mill towns of Lowell and
Haverhil, has
worked to ensure that public
policy meets the needs to the people of
Massachusetts and the United States.
When Dukakis was first elected governor in
Dismas family fun in Weston
from France up and held her sideways, we
stayed out for a few hours, carefully skiing
around the tiny pine trees the monks had
planted.  A few of us die-hards stayed on
the hill to snow board until dinner, which
was delicious I might add.  The day had just
slipped by.  Saturday evening a small group
grabbed sleds, boards, Richard being one
of us and trekked up the hill.  It was a grey
windy night.  It was on this hill that Richard
had his first, and probably last (LOL)
snowboarding experience.  It was great!!
1974, he inherited a state economy in what
is thought to have been the worst financial
crisis in the state’s history. He is credited
with turning it around. He was defeated in
his 1978 re-election bid, but came back in
1982 and retook the governor’s office. In
1986 his colleagues at the National
Governor’s Association voted him the most
effective governor in the nation.
Dukakis did not seek re-election in 1990,
but he stayed active in public policy. His
