Sr. Irene Duchesneau RHSJ
Burlington Dismas House is pleased to
honor Sr. Irene Duchesneau RHSJ with
this year’s Jack Hickey Award for her
commitment to the people of Vermont for
over half a century.
Sr. Duchesneau entered the Religious
Hospitaliers of St. Joseph in Burlington in
1948. She began
her ministry in
healthcare in 1953 and has been an
effective champion of the poor and
underserved since that time.
She has held various positions of
leadership in Catholic healthcare,
including Covenant Health Systems, as
well as leadership positions with
the
Religious Hospitallers in Montreal, the
Vermont State Board of Nursing, the
Sr. Irene Duchesneau, RHSJ
Vermont League for Nursing
and the
Canadian Catholic Health Association.
For the past 12 years, she has been the
chairperson of the Fanny Allen
Corporation, one of the parent
organizations that created Fletcher Allen
Health Care in 1995.
Sr. Duchesneau has taken a strong
personal interest in the work of Dismas.
The Fanny Allen Corporation has been
instrumental in the formation of a new
Dismas House in Winooski by providing
significant development grants.
This Award is in memory of Father Jack
Hickey, O.P., who founded the Dismas
movement in 1974, while he was Chaplin
at Vanderbilt University in Nashville,
Tennessee.
