New Dismas Project A Great Success

Burlington Dismas House has operated two Satellite Project apartments in the greater Burlington area since 2004.   The Satellite Apartments offer affordable housing to current Dismas House residents once they have met their commitment to live at Dismas House for three months and have a track record of steady employment and of fulfilling their other Dismas House responsibilities.   Although still connected to Dismas House, residents live more independently, with staff support as needed.   Residents pay a program fee which covers a significant portion of the cost to rent the property.  Satellite residents stay connected to the larger Dismas community by volunteering to cook once a month and joining other residents on Dismas outings.

Utilizing the satellite apartments opens up beds at Dismas House for prisoners who are on the waiting list.  There are currently 50 – 60 inmates waiting  for a bed at Dismas House.  Burlington Dismas House currently has 28 beds in Chittenden County.
