Capturing the Heart of Rutland

Is there a captivating or beautiful view behind your house, down your street, or perhaps in downtown Rutland?  Capture it with a photo and you might win a prize at the Rutland Photography Contest or be featured in the 2009 Rutland Calendar. 

 The contest photos will be exhibited at the Chaffee Art Center from August 8 through September 6, 2008.  An opening reception and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, August 8.

 We are excited to announce that the judges

 for the photo contest will be:

Peter Welch, Congressman
Chris Louras, Rutland Mayor
Alistair McCallum, Vermont Photographer
Lowell Klock, Vermont Photographer
Rutland Herald Photographer (TBA)

Judges will award prizes in Adult and Children (5-12 and 13-18) categories.  There will be one Grand Prize, and then first, second and third prizes in each category. 

 Everyone gets a chance to vote too!  Over the weekend of Art in the Park, August 9 and 10, members of the community will vote for their favorite photo and for sixteen photos that will be in the 2009 Rutland Calendar.

 The winning photos and the sixteen calendar photos will also be displayed later in the fall in the lobby of the Paramount Theater.

 The contest is for amateurs only and is open to all full-time and part-time residents of Rutland Town and Rutland City, and friends of Dismas House and the Chaffee Art Center.   Both old and new photos are eligible.  And everyone who enters the contest will have at least one photo displayed!

 It’s not too early to start looking through your old photographs or taking new ones.

So look out your window, take a hike in the hills, or walk downtown and capture the heart of Rutland through the lens of your camera.

All proceeds from the sale of the calendars will support programs at the Rutland Dismas House.
